Psalm 37 commentary

Psalm 37 commentary :

This psalm was written by David. It deals mainly on the subject on “why do the wicked prosper and the good people suffer”

“1 Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. 3 Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.”

God says not to get angry at wicked people or admire them of their wrong doing and they will disappear from earth. While on earth the wicked will come up with many schemes to upset you, emotionally and financially. And Satan will bring disharmony among your family.
He will bring disaster and he will do his best to destroy you and make you wish you were dead. But the enemy does not realize his power is going to be only temporary. His days are numbered.
This is the time, if you really do trust in the Lord, our God, Jesus Christ, that you will overcome all these obstacles. Always strive to do good in life. Do not be enticed by others to do evil in the sight of God.
Delight yourself in the Lord. It means express yourself, your Christian nature to others by being Christ like. Which means helping others, and “love your neighbor as yourself”, Place yourself in the same situation as your neighbor.
It does not mean just your next door neighbor, no, everyone you are associated with here on earth. Try to be “Christ like” living a godly life. This is exactly what it means to be “Christian”
Whenever troubles come upon your life, be at work or home, know that there is a God watching over the situation. Do not fret. You need to pray over every situation and If you stay calm and just let the situation pass by, God will step in due time to vindicate you.
Commit all your ways to Lord and he will show your righteousness to the world, and he will vindicate you.
Psalm 37-7:14

” 7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land. 10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.”
12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. 14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose ways are upright.
15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.”

Brothers, sisters, do not get angry when your enemy carry out their wicked schemes. Cheating you of your inheritance. Robbing your hard-earned money, Planning your destruction. Just be patient.
Try not to get angry. As if you let anger reside in you it will only lead to evil and there will be no difference between them and you.Believe in God.
And when God steps in, and those who trusted God will eventually inherit what is due to them and the wicked will be destroyed. And they will be destroyed by their own wicked schemes that were devised against the righteous. When you look around you will not see the wicked anymore.

Psalm 37:16-24

16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked;
17 for the power of the wicked will be broken,
but the Lord upholds the righteous. 18 The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care, and their inheritance will endure forever. 19 In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.
20 But the wicked will perish: Though the Lord’s enemies are like the flowers of the field, they will be consumed, they will go up in smoke. 21 The wicked borrow and do not repay but the righteous give generously;
22 those the Lord blesses will inherit the land,
but those he curses will be destroyed.
23 The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him;
24 though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

You may think you are poor as you have very little money and wealth. I have good news for you. In God’s eyes you are “wealthy” and God will hold you in his hands.
You will be spending your days under God’s care. Whatever you gain, inheritances will last forever. In times of disaster you will enjoy plenty.

In times of disaster, like in a major world war, the righteous will escape harm. Nothing will happen to them as they will be under God’s protection. God will save you and your loved ones. Not a drop of blood will be shed.

But the wicked will be destroyed. They will disappear from earth, as they were not protected. Many wicked people borrow but they do not repay. I like to remind you that it is essential that you pay your debts. To the credit card company, the mortgage you owe. God is watching, do not be like wicked and unless you have no other recourse try not to declare bankruptcy. The money you owe the bank comes from people’s savings.

Those whom God chose to bless will inherit land. But those he curses will be destroyed. Therefore, ensure that you follow God’s commands as even though you could fall he will hold you in his hands, so that you will survive any disaster.
Psalm 37:25-39

25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.
26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing. 27 Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever.
28 For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed; the offspring of the wicked will perish.
29 The will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. 30 The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just.
31 The law of their God is in their hearts;their feet do not slip. 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, intent on putting them to death; 33 but the Lord will not leave them in the power of the wicked or let them be condemned when brought to trial. 34 Hope in the Lord and keep his way.
He will exalt you to inherit the land;when the wicked are destroyed, you will see it. 35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a luxuriant native tree,
36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. 37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; a future awaits those who seek peace
38 But all sinners will be destroyed; there will be no future for the wicked. 39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
40 The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.

To their old age the righteous man will be forsaken, his children will not be begging. Rather, they will be giving to the needy freely, generously. The Lord loves the just, but he will destroy the evil, therefore live a just and righteous life.

The wicked will lie waiting to trap you and kill you. But God will rescue you. You will see many wicked men flourishing in this world showing off their mansions, luxury cars but in the end you will not be able to find him.

There is a future for man of peace. But all the sinners will be destroyed. To the righteous the Lord will always be there. In times of trouble he will deliver them. It is because you seek his refuge.

Conclusion:

Always trust God. Lead a righteous life. Always do good, commit your ways to the Lord. Do not admire people who do wrong as soon they will disappear. Always stay still when your enemies attack you. Do not get angry as it will only lead you to trouble. Your enemy will be destroyed. Be patient before the Lord. Do not worry if you have only little money or wealth, Power of the wicked will be broken and God will hold you in his hands.There is no need to worry as your omnipotent God always watches over you. Amen
