Patience a virtue bible verse:quotes patience

The quote – “patience is a virtue” comes from the narrative poem called “Piers Plowman”, written in the William Langland.

Patience needs discipline. In this world full of trouble, animosity and violence, one needs to be extremely patient to deal with it. We face disappointments in our life. And unless we are extremely patient it could ruin your life.

You could be disappointed with your boss, his attitude towards you despite working diligently, he still finds faults with your work. So what do you do ? Bark at him ? No way. Here is where your patience is tested.

In another scenario, you have an argument with your wife. She starts to accuse you. Blurts profanity. Still, you need to keep calm. If not things can get ugly, very ugly.

For the sake of children and marriage you need to keep quiet. You must reply to all the verbal attacks gently. At the end of the day you would be the winner, mark my words.
Even though it is not directly mentioned in the bible, the quote “patience is a virtue” ; there are many scriptures related to it as given below.

Galatians 5:22-

” But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

Yes, as it says in the bible, you need to have the fruit of the spirit. Most importantly, patience gentleness and self-control
You can not be joyful unless you have them. For you to have all these you need to invite the spirit of God into your heart. Then only you will truly enjoy the “fruit of the Spirit”

When it says “there is no law”, it means there are no limits to them. You can be gentle and be in self-control any time.

Proverbs 6:8-

“yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.”

If you want to be rich, a millionaire, you can be if you are patient. It takes lots of discipline. You can start by saving whatever you can at an early age of 21.

You need to be extremely patient as what could happen is that after you save some, something comes up requiring you to withdraw from these savings. Don’t do it. You must find an alternative way to attend to that need.

If you can borrow. And attend to that need. Put those savings in a 401k account or in a RSP account (if you are in Canada) and never touch it.

Grasshopper collect food at summer gradually. And during winter he does not have to worry. Likewise, you must save when you are young, or you will regret when you are old and retired. Then only God can help.
The result of not thinking and saving for the future will result in great difficulties late in your life. You can not depend on your children to help you when you are old nowadays. You must save.

Then you might say what with all the money saved, stashed in a bank somewhere, you get a life threatening illness like cancer ? This may be true, but you need to realize even though money may not heal your sickness, it can help.

It can help you get the best doctors, medicine not covered by government or private insurance. Of course, in the only by prayers and faith in Jesus that one could save his life.

God says not to be foolish and he refers to the grasshopper’s situation, how it saves food in the summer. You need to be patient and lead a disciplined life.

During the war, the soldiers get ready for a long battle. They know victory will not come overnight The Vietnam war took years even though nobody won. But all including the President knew it was going to be along one, that would require a great deal of patience.

In Today’s world, President Trump eventually had to be prudent and make a decision to meet with North Korean President Kim, to talk peace. And it took years of threats from both sides. I am making these illustrations to point out how patient on e must be, even for presidents.

Some wars were dragged on for years, but the leaders were patient making decisions when it came when to attack or talk peace. This is why every four years Americans choose a new president. He has to b strong, smart and patient.

When it comes to starting a business, for example a restaurant, initially, nobody turns up. It takes at least six months or more for customers to start using it. Then if the food you serve and quality and customer service is great, you will a gradual increase.

It takes great patience for the owner to carry on knowing he is losing money. He is worried about the interest he has to pay on the loan. His wife scolding him for starting the wrong business. His friends telling him he made a big mistake.

Despite all this negativity he carries on, and he prays to God. And God hears his prayers, and the business suddenly takes a turn for the better. He becomes successful and he becomes a millionaire. Why ? because he was Patient.

Proverbs 16:32-

“Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.”

How often you see some blows up in anger in a matter of seconds. It could be due to alcoholism, pressure at work or most probably lack of patience. Despite daily attacks you may face it will be prudent not to lose your temper in any situation.

How difficult it would have been for President Trump to be patient, wisely I would add to be calm and patient with North Korean President Kim, when he hurled insults after insults as him.

But he stood firm. He could have triggered nuclear war with North Korea and many thought he would. And he did no. Why, it is because of his years of experience in dealing with similar situations be it in business or personal life.

1 Corinthians 13:4-

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant”

You love your wife, children but you need to be patient when they irritate you, make you angry. In family life you face many obstacles that you must overcome. If not it will be very difficult to live.

You need to humble yourself. This is very difficult especially for a man. But you must regardless. You will face very challenging situation in life. You lose your loved ones. And possibly your job.

This will create a situation that would be unbearable. This is where you need to be patient. Try find any job so that there will be food on the table. Comfort your children and wife. They need your strength.

Romans 8:25-

” But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience “

You are thinking hopefully that you will win the lottery. But you do not win it. You might wait all your life still you have not won it. But there is a better way saw a seed, meaning some money to the church, for God’s work. You will definitely reap if you don’t doubt. You need to wait patiently.

You may be waiting for your partner but you still have not found him or her. What do you do. You wait patiently. It might take years but I guarantee it will be worth the wait.

Eventually it will be worth it. It would be better to wait rather than jump into a relationship. How tragic it would be to have a relationship with the wrong partner.

Galatians 6:9-

” And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up”

Always strive to do good to people. It is because if you keep doing good you will reap results of those good deeds. People will pour favors upon you, and you will be blessed in every way. It does not mean you have to be good only to your family or friends. Even to your enemies you must show goodwill. What is the point in doing good to your friends when even sinners do it.

James 5:7-

” Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains”

Jesus will return, we do not know when. But you need to wait patiently. Just as the farmer waits for the rains to come.

In this troublesome world, you need to practice patience. It is very important that you absorb all the attacks of the enemy, despite the pressure attached to it for you to fail.
Save and build up for your future by saving systematically at a younger age.Always forgive all who have done wrong to you, to your enemies. Be slow to anger. Do good to people.

  1. Hello Saj,

You cover so many great points in your very nice and motivating article.

    I enjoyed it.

As I look back over my life, I remember times of great pain and hurt.

For example, someone you love decides they no longer want to be with you.

At the time the pain can be intense. I remember the devastation it caused to me…

Years later, I am so grateful she left…

Had she not, i would not have met the love of my life and instead been miserable with a woman who cared for no one but herself.

Time is indeed a great tool !

Discovering that an experience is just that, an experience and that it ultimately means nothing in the end, it helped me to react much slower to events.

What defines me is not the event, but how I react to the event.

I hope to read more of your posts in the future.

    Great job

  2. I myself struggle with patience. I do succumb to the pressures of the world sometimes but I bounce back and remind myself of my faith in God as in myself.

It is good to have joyous reminders of good practices of patience to refer to. I have read my bible many times but truly retaining the message and its value is the walk we all must go on.

Thank you so much for sharing!
