I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly

John 10:10-” The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full “

Jesus came to this world, so that we could have a life, full, and an abundant life. There are some who argue this is not so and that He was referring to life in Heaven.

I am positive that you may have heard many, abundant life sermons from many preaches, mostly from evangelists on TV. And many of them say Jesus was referring to abundant life here on earth. And there is a plethora of abundant life sermons that you hear today.

One of the most popular evangelists who used to preach about abundant life on earth was Rev. Oral Roberts. He used to “hammer out” about Tithing and abundant life on earth. Another was Kenneth Copland and later Joel Osteen.

There is no reason to doubt in my mind that this statement was in reference to life on earth. There is no reason for Jesus to come for abundant life in heaven, as once you reach heaven, abundant life is already laid for you to enjoy.

2 Corinthians 1:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. Old things have passed away and new things have come.”

Here it refers to that after one is saved by accepting Christ as the savior, you will have a new form full of prosperity and happiness. No longer the sinful life he led. No longer coarse joking, filthy language, no lying.

You slowly or immediately sometimes, transfer to a whole new creature, kinder , understanding, loving and your spouse and friends and relatives around you will notice.

John 5:40-” Yet you refuse to come to Me to have life”

Here Jesus is referring to that many after hearing or getting to know of him, yet they refuse to accept him. Unfortunately, even though Israelis are considered God’s chosen people yet they refuse to accept him as the savior.

And if you do not accept Him as your savior you will never see abundant life.

Tithing-Tithing is of utmost importance as in,

Malachi 3:10 it says ““Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it “

Here, I must emphasis, without giving, it is impossible to please God, among other things. God requires you to give one tenth of all your earnings. And as you give God will prosper you. At the same time you need to follow God’s other commandments too. Again, I must emphasis it could be still possible that you would lack finances. The reason is that God may be thinking that if he makes you rich you could go astray and forget God, or it is possible that you are not mature enough yet to handle a large sum of money, yet.

If God decides to prosper you, He will give more than others can even imagine. If you ask, according to His will, he will give you property , the latest cars, jets, mansions, money or whatever you want. But He is sure to check and see where your heart is. He may not give any of these, if he sees that your heart is on wealth and not on Him.

Life in heaven-

John 14: 2 it says “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you ? “

Here, Jesus is saying he would prepare a place for us in Heaven. And in heaven, things would be far better than in the world. It will be a completely new life. You will have a heavenly body, not a corrupt body like what we have now. You will have a sparkling body. Would be like an Angel, flying, in the outer space and communicating with Jesus.

Revelation 13:8 says “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world”

Your name must be written in the Book of Life as it says in the above statement. Or else you will not be able to enter heaven and have an everlasting life.

In many other religions, like in Buddhism, Hinduism; they speak of reincarnation or life after death. And they say you can be re-born as a monkey or even a snake. We Christian do not believe it.

Suffering of Jesus-

John 10:11-” I am the good shepherd. He good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep”

Jesus suffered many times . In Matthews 26:47-56 , he was betrayed by Judas, and his disciples left him alone. In Luke 22:63-64 , was beaten by the guards of the temple. And in Matt. 27:17-25; John 1:11 He was rejected by the very own people that he came  save. And had his beard plucked away  from his face in Isaiah 50:6 Crowned with thorns and laughed at by soldiers,Matt. 27:26-29. Then he was condemned to die, John 19:13-16

Conclusion:

Jesus went through all this pain, because he loved you. When he was going through it , Father did not rescue him because he was sent to the world with a purpose.

I would like all of you to remember that Jesus, was stripped naked, sometimes abandoned by his own Father, and suffered on the cross.

We can Not fathom how much Jesus suffered. If you want to get some idea, I suggest you watch Mel Gibson’s movie “Passion of the Christ”

As we were bought by the shed blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior. Through His blood we are assured of an everlasting life in heaven with Jesus besides us.

Amen
