More blessed to give than receive-bible verses giving poor

More blessed, give than receive; Have you been giving, lately ? The more you give more blessings will come your way.

Verses about giving to the poor:

In Luke 3:38, it says

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

As outlined here, the more you give, more you will be blessed with. Always give, whenever you can. It says “A generous person will prosper;whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Whenever you can give, give to the poor, give to the person in need, if someone is hungry, give him food. Do not ignore and go past the beggar, that you see on the streets, subway. The more you give more you get. It is a universally accepted fact.

Do not withhold:

Proverbs 3:27 says

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” if your friend ask for money, to buy medicine for his ill son, do not say no, if you are able to help. Do not say no to your friend in financial trouble when it is your power to help. In countries like India children are dying in need of a kidney transplant, but lack finances to get one. I encourage you, if you can afford to help these poor souls.

And there are many in, Asia and Latin America suffering due to lack of shelter, cloth and food. I encourage you to give and give generously. There are many programs in the world like Red Cross who help these children. Just make a small donation today, however small or big it is.

You go to liquor store and see someone from Red Cross asking for funds, do not look away, even a quarter would suffice.

Not an obligation:

And when you give, Do not give as an obligation, give from your heart. As it says in 2 Corinthians 9:7 “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Be happy that you can give. The job you have is given to you by God. Honor him by first giving him one tenth of that income and then help your brother/sister in need.

Be generous:

Be generous always.if you are rich and able, buy a new car for your brother or sister or even for a friend in need, a disabled says in Proverbs 11:25,

“A generous person will prosper;whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Do not brag:

It is also important that you do not announce to the whole world what you have done, as it says in Matthew 6:2

“When you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.”

Do not give expecting it back:

When someone asks you for anything, Give, whenever you can. When you help someone, And do not ask for what you have already given, do not expect anything back from him. God will reward you, as it says in Luke 6:30

“Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.”

If you lend money to anyone, if he does not repay, do not hound him asking for the money. Just pray and expect it back from God. He will pay you back 100 times more.

2 Corinthians 9:8

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” here God is telling you that he will supply all your needs, so you can be a blessing to all

As you give God will ensure you are well looked after, and blessed in everything you need. 2 Corinthians 9:10

“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.”

Most importantly you must give to God, in Malachi 3:10 it says “

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

I have included some bible verses giving to poor as well to illustrate what God expects us to do in life.

The Lord is asking us to to give and give whenever you can. And also to bring one tenth of all we earn to the church, which is the same as “storehouse”. As doing that He will ensure that you have all your needs are met. And the poor will have their needs met as well. And God will reward you by opening the doors of heaven and pour out  a great blessing on you and family. Amen

  1. It is always inspiring to be reminded that this universe enjoys reciprocity a lot. There is no reason whatsoever to withhold help when we can. And defining ‘help’ is also essential in all we do. Everything has to be balanced – but there is no need to expect that the help given to A must be reciprocated back by A. The God’s mechanism often works by using B repay you back. So there is no need to worry when A cannot help you back. Thanks Saj for sharing.

    1. Absolutely, as God says in the Bible you should not expect the person you helped to return the favor. You will get rewarded through a third party.
